Automating Inventory and Purchasing Workflows

By Techaura · · 5 min read

For inventory-led businesses, the cycle of noticing low stock, raising orders, approving spend and receiving goods consumes hours every week. Much of it follows rules that can be automated, while keeping people in control of decisions.

Reorder rules

Set minimum and maximum levels per product or location, informed by sales history and supplier lead times. The system can then draft purchase orders when stock falls below the threshold.

Approval routing

Define who approves what, for instance by amount or supplier. Requests route automatically, with reminders if they stall.

Goods received and matching

Receiving goods against the purchase order updates stock immediately and prepares the match against the supplier invoice.

Alerts that matter

  • Stock below minimum.
  • Purchase orders overdue from suppliers.
  • Large variances between ordered and received quantities.

Keep the human in the loop

Draft orders for review rather than sending them blindly, at least until the rules have proven themselves.
